Kaurina Danu – Doula and Prenatal Class Teacher serving the Surrey, Langley and Vancouver area, BC, Canada
Kaurina Danu is a Childbirth Educator Birth Doula. She is a mother of four and lives in Clayton Heights, Surrey. “I became obsessed with birth and the amazing effects of doulas after the birth my first child. A doula friend came over unexpectedly while I was in labor and I had a 180° turn from feeling pretty crummy to feeling like I could do it. I was so amazed afterwords how the simple things she did made such a huge difference in my inner journey and how I felt about the whole experience. You can read more about my birth stories. I wondered why this sort of thing wasn’t headline news everyday. I did my Doula and Childbirth Educator training as soon as I could, then went on to have 3 more kids, the last two being homebirths.” For the last 8 years, she’s been on a quest to help other moms have a great experience. She took the Doula and Childbirth Educator training with Childbirth International while living in Singapore, then completed the DONA training when she came back to Canada. She has worked with the South Community Birth Program in Vancouver and the Community Birth Program in Surrey – the only programs where physicians, midwives, nurses and doulas work together as a team. In her “life before douladom” she has been a drama teacher, certified reflexologist, support group facilitator, crisis counselor and henna artist.
